We are a Christian student group at Sandown High school, united in our faith and in love for the Lord Jesus Christ. We have around 25 - 35 regulars who are average people but exist to glorify God in Jesus Christ, by uniting people in a love for him and by sharing his grace with others, so that they may know and love him too. Basically we're all about loving Jesus together, telling everyone who will listen, how awesome his saving grace is, and seeking to back up our words with action.

In the past the Christian Union at Sandown hasn’t been that great at times – due to different issues, such as the bad locality of the room and exams, we got to the stage a few years ago where only two or three people turned up each week. So why did we carry on the next year? Why didn’t we just pack it in? Well there were times when we felt like it, but we prayed about it and then felt that we needed a set plan for the next term to give us a basis and a sense of continuity to the studies. We publicised more so that more people knew what was going on (even if they couldn’t attend) and we set up some email addresses for you: (questions@sandowncu.co.uk and prayerrequests@sandowncu.co.uk) for you to send questions, prayer requests and anything else they wanted to talk to us about. Last year, God really blessed what we were doing and so more people began to attend, and our faith that we were doing the right thing in keeping the CU was built up. We grew stronger as a group and as individuals. We ended last year with a few of us doing chewing gum scraping, to start to reach out into the school and help those around us. Last year we developed this website in order to inform you of what's going on.

We believe that as Christians we need other Christians around to support us and help us to grow in God, because doing it alone is almost impossible, so by meeting weekly we are achieving this, as a part of God’s family we can be there for each other to encourage one another and build each other up.

But not only do we want to help each other. We also we want to reach out to other people and let others around us see what Christianity is all about – not following rules to get our way to heaven if we’re good enough, but trusting in our Lord Jesus Christ for our Salvation and trying to follow His way of life, showing others complete and unconditional love. It’s not enough for us just to believe – we need to show others our faith through our actions – we need to practise what we preach. Through the CU we try to help each other to have the confidence not to blend into the crowd but to shine out for Jesus and glorify God in the way that we live.
